Ryanair -Established in 1985 as one of the
original low cost carriers, Ryanair has expanded to carrying
over 50m passengers on more than 600 routes, largely in Europe
and Morrocco. They have a reputation for being ruthlessly cut
price and there have been numerous reports of poor
service and problems
with the Ryanair booking system. In 2006 the Guardian named
Ryanair as the world's least
favourite airline.
Online booking: Simple online booking. However they do
not include a number of extras in the basic cost of the flight,
so by the end the cost is likely to be considerably more. Extras
include taxes, credit card fee, baggage, wheelchair levy. Flight
insurance is also offered by default. Flights can be changed
(subject to administrative fee) and they operate a 'no refunds'
policy.
Environmental policy: They advertise themselves as
Europes greenest airline, largely by virtue of using a very young
and efficient fleet of aircraft (average age 2.5 years). However,
the airline has always been one of the biggest opponents of environmental
taxes and in 2007 were slammed by the advertising standards office
for misleading advertising on environmental issues.
